2019 Men’s Javelin World Rankings

With a year-leading 297-3 Magnus Kirt became the farthest left-hander ever. (GLADYS CHAI/ASVOM AGENCY)

CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS don’t always go according to form, particularly in the javelin. Doha was definitely one of those, and as a result the overall Rankings don’t match up well with the WC finish. Here’s how our eventual Top 10 fared there: 2-3-10-nq-1-5-7-nq-6-dnc…

THE BEST OVERALL SEASON went to DL winner Magnus Kirt, who only once finished lower than 2nd. He becomes the first Estonian No. 1 ever… Silver medalist Johannes Vetter split his meetings with Kirt 2-2, but was beaten by him in the two biggest meets, the DL Final and the WC… Anderson Peters was problematic. Despite being the undefeated world champ, he never competed in Europe and didn’t go head-to-head with any of the contenders other than at the WC, so he ends up as No. 5…

THE U.S. was shut out yet again. Not since Breaux Greer’s No. 3 finish in ’07 has the U.S. had a Ranker.
