AFTER FINISHING ONLY 3rd in the Japanese Championships, Toshikazu Yamanishi erupted a month later, winning the Asian Championships with a PR 1:17:15 that moved him to No. 3 on the all-time world list. And in his next race he was close to that PR in winning the important La Coruña race…
FAST TIMES were doomed not to be a thing at the WC, but Yamanishi’s 1:26:34 in the Doha pressure-cooker was as fast as anybody could get as he easily moved into the top spot in the Rankings… The silver (Vasiliy Mizinov) and bronze (Perseus Karlström) winners take the next two spots… Lack of Q-times kept the Americans out of the WC, with Nick Christie repeating as the top U.S. Ranker.
