2019 Men’s Decathlon World Rankings

After a brilliant second day Niklaus Kaul had plenty to shout about at the World Championships. (GLADYS CHAI/ASVOM AGENCY)

TRIFECTA COMPLETE: with his World Champs win, Niklas Kaul added to previous World Youth (U18) and Junior (U20) golds. At 21 he finally came into his own against the big boys, producing another trifecta in the PRs department, each of his 3 meets (8336, 8572, 8671) representing a lifetime best. His second day in Doha found him racking up 4527 points, one of the highest totals ever…

THE YEAR’S BEST TOTAL went to Damian Warner, his 8711 in Götzis beating Kaul, among others. He didn’t have a great outing in Doha, but his bronze was enough to lift him to No. 2 overall, the same spot he held last year (and in ’15). Countryman Pierce LePage, the Talence winner, earned the No. 4 spot, giving Canada a pair of Rankers for the first time ever…

AND A TRIFECTA of the bad variety: for the third year in a row the U.S. was shut out. That last happened with a 4-year drought 1981–84. U.S. leader Solomon Simmons got his first No. 1 ever.
