MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, May 13-15 — Karen Dennis’s Buckeyes racked up a record 185½ points in steamrolling to a third straight Big 10 women’s title. Sprint power provided many of the points on the final day, as Ohio State first captured the 4×1 in 43.20, then followed with a 1-3 finish in the 400 as Bryannia Murphy (51.72) edged Michigan’s Ziyah Holman (51.75) with Jaydan Wood in 3rd at 52.46.
In the 100, the Buckeyes swept the first three spots, Nya Bussey beating Anavia Battle in a windy 11.18–11.19 race, with Yanique Dayle at 11.25w. Battle, an Olympian at 200, dominated her specialty in 22.28w, boosted by a 5.2 gust. Dayle got 2nd in 22.80w. The team victory had long been clinched by the time the 4×4 squad won in 3:31.94.
Ohio State’s Alexus Pyles had gotten the ball rolling with her heptathlon victory (5623) then came back to win the long jump with a windy 20-5 (6.22) and take 2nd in the hurdles to Penn State’s Yasmin Brooks, 12.99w–13.01w. And Jaimie Robinson led a Buckeye 1-2 in the triple jump with her windy 44-5¼ (13.54). Adelaide Aquilla took the shot with a put of 60-6¾ (18.46).
Other highlights included a double distance win for Michigan State’s Jenna Magness, who won her first 10,000 ever in 33:37.17 and came back to top the 5000 in 16:17.88. Frosh athletes captured three events: Nebraska’s Jenna Rogers the high jump (5-11½/1.82), Rutgers Chloe Timberg the vault (14-½/4.28) and Minnesota’s Abigail Schaffe the 400H (57.45).
