MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, May 13-15—Eric Harrison pulled off a sharp sprint double to lead Ohio State to the Big 10 title. The Buckeyes totaled 124 points, 21 more than closest challenger Iowa. The Trinidadian senior took the 100 in a windy 10.02 over Indiana’s Rikkoi Brathwaite (10.11) and Purdue’s Antonio Mitchell (10.12), then came back to top Mitchell in the 200, 20.12w to 20.35.
The meet’s final day had started off with Harrison running first leg on the Buckeye 4×1 that won in 39.12. Teammate Tyler Johnson, the 4×1 anchor, then came back to take his specialty 400 in 46.18.
It had been 25 years since any team had captured both men’s and women’s titles in the same meet, and Karen Dennis is the first female coach to win on both sides.
The winds were legal (1.6) for Michigan’s Joshua Zeller. The British hurdler, who came in with a PR of 13.42, powered a 13.19 performance over the highs to move to No. 7 all-time among collegians, handily topping the PR 13.39 from Ohio State’s Kentre Patterson.
Having already run bests of 1:47.85 and 3:38.24 this season, Michigan State’s NCAA Indoor mile runner-up, Morgan Beadlescomb, stretched his range even further with his first-ever 10,000, taking the win in 28:54.93.
On the field, the only double winner was Nebraska soph Maxwell Otterdahl, who captured the shot with a 64-8 (19.71) and the next day’s discus at 190-11 (58.19).
Michigan State decathlete Ryan Talbot added 387 points to his best in the decathlon, his 8064 topping the field by more than 300.
