2024 Men’s Discus World Rankings

Cal collegian and WR-holder Mykolas Alekna earned his No. 1 at age 21, then turned 22 in September. (DON GOSNEY)

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON. Well almost. Virgilijus Alekna won Olympic gold (2, in fact), but Mykolas came up just 2 inches short in Paris, having to settle for silver. On the other hand, junior found an ideal wind site in Oklahoma and claimed the WR that had escaped dad (at his peak, by just 7 inches)… Mykolas still has collegiate eligibility, should he choose to use it…

WITH 3 DL WINS plus a 2nd and a 3rd, Alekna had the edge over Oly champ Stona — whose best DL placing was a 2nd — though the Jamaican led their head-to-head, 2-1… The dominant Diamond League force was DL Final winner Matt Denny, who led into that with four 2nds a 3rd and a 4th.
