THE GERMAN STAR stumbled badly in closing her season with a 5th in the DL Final, but by then she had enough credentials — Oly gold, 3 DL wins — that there was no question as to who was No. 1… Ivana Španović just missed the Tokyo podium but finished a strong DL year with a Zürich win to capture No. 2…

DISTRESSED WITH THE last-round protocol in use (a protocol we ignored in assigning Rankings places), the veteran Reese skipped DL competition, but her Oly silver was the key to keeping the No. 3 spot. It’s the American’s 13th year in the Top 10, trailing only Drechsler’s amazing 21.
