WHEN THE YEAR BEGAN, Athing Mu was a promising Texas A&M frosh with a lifetime best of 2:01.17. Incredibly, she went on to run 6 finals, improving her PR in each of them: 2:01.07 and 1:58.40 indoors, then 1:57.73, 1:56.07 (to win the Olympic Trials after turning pro early), 1:55.21 (to win Olympic gold) and 1:55.04 (to win Pre). The last two of those were American Records. She’s now No. 8 on the all-time world list…
TOKYO SILVER MEDALIST Keely Hodgkinson cemented her position as No. 2 with a DL Final win… Places 3 and 4 go to a pair who sparkled in the post-Tokyo segment of the tour but had bad major races earlier, Natoya Goule falling to 8th in the Olympic Games and Kate Grace to 7th in the Olympic Trials. Confusing things, Goule had a winning record over Hodgkinson and Grace beat Goule.
