2023 Women’s 100 World Rankings

Sha’Carri Richardson, previously No. 8 in 2021, rocketed all the way to the top. (GLADYS CHAI/ASVOM AGENCY)

JAMAICA’S GRIP ON THE TOP END was finally broken after 10 straight leaderships (and 1-2-3s in ’21 & ’22). Before that came a 3-year streak for American Carmelita Jeter…

ASCENDING TO THE TOP SPOT was mercurial world champ Sha’Carri Richardson, who forged a solid 0.07 margin of victory over Shericka Jackson in Hungary. The Jamaican bounced back to win the DL Final, but overall Richardson won 3 DL meets to her 1, and the Texan beat her 3-1. The pair were even down to the 1000th in terms of yearly top-5 average at 10.726…

THE BUDAPEST BRONZE went to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce over Marie-Josée Ta Lou but SAFP’s 3-meet season dictated a reversal of their places in the Rankings. The Jamaican is now tied for No. 3 on the all-time scoring list at 98 with Evelyn Ashford. Next up: Marlies Göhr (99) & Merlene Ottey (140).
