2023 Men’s High Jump World Rankings

Earning the 22nd No. 1 for a U.S. jumper, JuVaughn Harrison previously rated No. 9 in ’21 and 4 in ’22. (VICTOR SAILER/PHOTO RUN)

CAN YOU REMEMBER the last time an American claimed No. 1 in the high jump? You’ll be forgiven if you can’t dredge up Jesse Williams from ’11…

AND NOW THERE’S JuVAUGHN HARRISON. The LSU alum didn’t win at either the WC or DL Final, but was the year’s only 3-DL winner…

BRILLIANT IN HIS WC WIN, Gianmarco Tamberi was less than stellar just about everywhere else (as in, DL finishes of 2, 4 & 6)… Friend/rival Mutaz Barshim beat the Italian 2-1 and had a superb DL sequence of 1-1-2-3. Barshim couldn’t pass Harrison, though, what with the American’s 3-0 head-to-head…

THE YEAR’S BEST sequence of marks belong to undefeated Danil Lysenko, but with the Russian ban keeping him out of international competition he can’t be any higher than No. 5.
