ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, April 08-09 — There were plenty of outstanding performances on the girls side at Arcadia, but none was better than that of precocious Sadie Engelhardt (Ventura, California), whose run in the mile broke a slew of records.
Engelhardt was not messing around, taking charge from the gun. A loaded field that included Chloe Foerster (Jesuit, Portland), Riley Stewart (Cherry Creek, Greenwood Village, Co), and Samantha McDonnell (Newbury Park, California) hung by Engelhardt for 67/2:16 splits, but after that the Ventura frosh took off.
She peeled off laps of 71 and 68 to finish in 4:35.16, not only smashing the meet record by 8 seconds but also setting a frosh class and age-15 record. She also moved to No. 5 on the all-time list, with the No. 7 performance.
The next 3 were also under the MR, with Foerster taking 2nd in 4:40.27, edging McDonnell (4:40.63) and Stewart (4:40.82). Taylor Rohatinsky (Lone Peak, Utah) was 5th in 4:44.14.
An elated Engelhardt remarked about her age record and more saying, “I was super excited to get that. I’m also excited to win this big of a race. Usually, it’s like me getting 2nd or 3rd, but still running a great time, but it’s a great time and I won, too, so it’s a cherry on top.”
In the vault, Amanda and Hana Moll (Capital, Olympia, Washington) waited until the bar reached 13-4 to enter the competition. The two 11th-graders cleared the height on their second attempt, but found themselves tied for 2nd behind San Diego’s Allison Leigh.
The bar was raised to 13-10, which only the Moll sisters cleared. They both made 13-10, but only recent national recordsetter Amanda cleared 14-4 before missing 3 times at a HS Record 15-0.
More outdoor HS leaders came out of the meet, headed by Dalia Frias (Mira Costa, Manhattan Beach) 9:58.96+ in the 8-lapper, soph Allison Ince (Community, Normal, Illinois) 2:05.42 in the 800 and Buchanan (Clovis) 19:56.08 in the 4 x 1600.
Georgia commit Autumn Wilson (Savio, Austin) was a double winner, taking the 100 in 11.49 and the 200 in 23.68.
