On March 10. The Soviet shot putter, winner of the European Indoor in ’87, placed 7th in both the ’80 and ’88 Olympics. The 4-time World Ranker was No. 4 in ’86.
Died: Giovanni Lievore, 93
On April 28, in Turin, Italy. The brother of javelin WR-setter Carlo Lievore, Giovanni finished 6th in the ’56 Olympic javelin. He World Ranked No. 6 in ’58.
