Shot putters aren’t exactly sharing in the wealth all-around. Tom Walsh, in winning shot silver In Glasgow, has piled up a decade-straight of medaling at the World Indoor. He says of the biggest change he has seen in that time: “The performances have gone up dramatically and the depth has gone up, but I think one thing that has definitely dropped off is sponsorship. I think the only two guys who are sponsored [by an apparel brand] in the men’s shot put are Ryan [Crouser] and Joe [Kovacs], and they both deserve it, absolutely, but the rest of the guys aren’t, and I’m included in that.”…

The Commission On The State of U.S. Olympics & Paralympics, established by Congress in ’20, released a 275-page report in early March. It concluded in part that “we need a better long-term vision for how we organize Olympic- and Paralympic-movement sports in America.” The panel is calling for Congress to consider wide-ranging changes, including government funding of the U.S. Center for SafeSport, severing grassroots from the elite sports system and even removing the word “amateur” in a potential rewrite of the ’78 law that created the current setup….

CAS rejected the Russian Olympic Committee’s appeal of its suspension from the IOC; the suspension was tied to the invasion of Ukraine, and specifically to the ROC’s bringing several sports organizations from occupied Ukrainian territories under its umbrella. That violated the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee and thus the Olympic Charter…
