LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY & FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, May 22–25 — Weather delays at both NCAA Preliminary Round sites were no hindrance for Jaida Ross. At the West Regional, Oregon senior Ross spun her shot out to a new Collegiate Record, 65-7¾ (20.01).

An 11¾ (30cm) improvement on the standard Ross set on April 06 and then matched 3 weeks later, the throw carried her into the 65-foot/20-meter clubs, the sixth American past the metric barrier and seventh to reach that Imperial territory.

Ross, who arrived at Oregon for the ’21 season with a 48-5 prep best, wrote on Instagram, “Words can’t express how much I love this team. I have never felt the support I feel now from the team, to family, to friends. Thank you all for the love, it means the world to me. Off to nationals.”

Ross was joined by others in rewriting all-time lists. Texas Tech junior Caleb Dean’s 48.05 in the 400H made him the No. 8 all-time collegian. Auburn frosh hurdler Ja’Kobe Tharp got close to his 13.18 AJR with 13.24, equaling the No. 4 all-time U20 performance. Alabama frosh Samuel Ogazi, a Nigerian, zipped a 400 in 44.53, making himself the No. 6 all-time Junior.

The women’s side of both meets saw even more ATL action. In the East 100, Florida State’s Dajaz Defrand sprinted 10.94, good for equal-No. 10 among American collegians. Rosemary Chukwuma (10.88, =6, =8 C) of Texas Tech and Mississippi’s McKenzie Long (10.92, 10, x C) were even faster. With a 2.3 wind behind her, Oregon’s Jadyn Mays clocked 10.83w, and is now the equal-No. 10 all-conditions century collegian.

In the East 800, LSU’s NCAA defending champ Michaela Rose ran 1:59.05, the No. 5 all-time collegiate performance, and Clemson frosh Gladys Chepngetich moved to No. 10 collegian timed in 1:59.81.

The East 1500 saw Kimberly May of Providence run a 4:07.00 heat and grab the No. 10 collegian spot. NCAA defender Maia Ramsden’s 4:05.65 quarterfinal was the No. 3 collegiate performance.

Helped by a 3.1 wind in her West quarterfinal, Ecuadorian Washington State senior Maribel Caicedo hurdled 12.38w to make herself the No. 4 all-conditions collegiate performer.

Rachel Glenn advanced in the high jump, which she won at the NCAA Indoor, and notably raced the 400 hurdles in 53.94, moving to No. 8 on the collegiate ATL. A Razorback 4×4 squad that did not include Glenn ran 3:21.92, the fastest-ever collegiate time outdoors. In the 4 x 100, South Carolina became the No 8 school in event history timed in 42.46.
