CHASE JACKSON and Sarah Mitton were formcharted for 1–2 in Paris, but both bombed out horribly, the American not making the final and the Canadian ending up 12th. They somewhat made up for it here with Mitton leading a 1–2.
Kiwi Maddie Wesche took the early lead with a first-round 64-5¾ (19.65). That held up until round 3, when Olympic champ Yemisi Ogunleye improved to 64-8½ (19.72). But Mitton came to life to close that sequence with a 66-5¼
(20.25). Jackson, meanwhile, was mired in 4th at 63-10½ (19.47).
Jackson was the only one to improve in stanza 4, climbing into 2nd at 64-10½ (19.77). She then launched the only improvement of round 5 (and 6, for that matter), reaching 65-3½ (19.90).
Mitton and Jackson both finished with fouls, the former being a long foul in the 21m range that was voided when her heel hit the top of the stopboard as she wrapped up her spin.
Said Mitton, just the second Canadian woman to win a DL title, “Overall I am really happy with my season. I had some ups and downs but I won [the World Indoor] and now the Diamond League title, so this is really great.
