Chart fave Texas A&M should score points around the event slate and 1:44.46 man Sam Whitmarsh projects as the 800 winner. (ERROL ANDERSON/THE SPORTING IMAGE)
OUR FIRST MEN’S chart of the year had Texas A&M and Texas Tech tying for the team title, but that scenario has changed markedly for iteration 2. While A&M gained a point, Tech dropped 11. Meanwhile, Florida added 3, the overall result being the Aggies now projecting as 9-point favorites over the defending champ Gators.
Things could well come down to the climactic 4×4, what with Florida and A&M predicted to go 1–2 in that event.
Successful individual defenses of ’23 wins look to be hard to come by as 10 of 19 champions return, but only 3 are picked to repeat their wins: 400H—Chris Robinson (Alabama), HJ—Romaine Beckford (Arkansas), Dec—Leo Neugebauer (Texas).
