NEW YORK CITY, February 11 — Once again, the actual prep events at Millrose took a back seat to the high schoolers who made their headlines in the pro competitions.

And once again, it was Shawnti Jackson (South Granville, Creedmoor North Carolina) who produced a national record, sprinting 7.16 to cut 0.02 off the 7.18 she set in the same race last year. En route she tied her own national 55 record at 6.67.

“I just focus on myself and focus on bettering myself,” she said after placing 5th. “I don’t really focus on if there are Olympians in the race.”

Another 5th-place finish went to Sophia Gorriaran (Brown, Providence, Rhode Island) in the pro 600, clocking a prep leader 1:27.51 the day after a 2:01.16 in an 800 in Boston.

In the pro vault, Amanda Moll (Capital, Olympia, Washington) topped 14-8½ for 5th, the No. 7 performance in indoor history, while sister Hana went 14-2¾ in 6th.

Nyckoles Harbor (Carroll, Washington, DC) got a lane in the pro 60, but finished last in 6.70, slower than the winning time in the prep 60 for Issam Asinga (Academy, Montverde, Florida), who clocked 6.63.

Miler Rocky Hansen (Christ, Arden, North Carolina) took the prep lead (and No. 6 all-time) with his 4:00.84 for 5th in the B section, ahead of Connor Burns (Southern Boone, Ashland, Missouri), who was 8th in 4:03.28.

Meanwhile, on the prep portion of the schedule, frosh Quincy Wilson (Bullis, Potomac, Maryland) covered 600 in 1:17.80 to become the No. 4 prep ever, taking down the 9th-grade record. Michelle Smith (Academy) moved to No. 7 ever with her 1:29.52 win.

Both 300s delivered meet records. Madison Whyte (Heritage, Newport News, Virginia) won her race in 37.12 to become the No. 4 prep ever, finishing more than a second ahead of the 38.20 of Elise Cooper (McDonagh, Owings Mills, Maryland). In the boys race, Zyaire Nuriddin (Academy) caught teammate Asinga before the line to win as both dipped under the old record, 33.46–33.57.

The girls mile went to Kate Putman (Cicero-North Syracuse, Cicero, New York), who negative-split her 4:45.35, closing with a last half of 2:21.18 to beat Zariel Macchia (Floyd, Mastic Beach, New York). The early leader, Macchia finished in 4:47.00.
