RENTON, WASHINGTON, June 12 — Allie Zealand of Lynchburg, Virginia, snapped the outdoor High School Record in the 2-Mile at the Brooks PR Invitational with her 9:41.76, leading 5 under 9:55. Her time slashed the mark from the 9:50.70 that California’s Dalia Frias ran in ’22. In/out, it stands behind only Mary Cain’s 9:38.68 from 2013.

“I felt the wind and decided that I wasn’t going to take the lead until 800 to go,” said Zealand, who passed 3000 in 9:04.53. “I knew it was going to be a good day for a PR.”

Drew Griffith broke the High School Record for the 3000 en route to his 2-mile win. The senior from Butler, Pennsylvania, bound for Notre Dame, broke away over the last three laps and passed the 3K post in 7:58.66, nicking the old best of 7:59.83 that German Fernandez of Riverbank (California) had set in ’08. Griffith made it to the 2M finish in 8:31.46, the No. 2 time ever, exactly 2 seconds short of the Lukas Verzbicas mark from 2011. The all-time list got some rewriting behind Griffith, with Florida prep Patrick Koon at 8:34.82 (No. 6) and Nathan Neil (Montana) at 8:36.73 (No. 10).

In the 800, frosh Cooper Lutkenhaus of Justin, Texas, blasted a 1:47.58 win to slice 1.54 off his own grade 9 record. On the girls’ side, Sadie Engelhardt of Ventura, California, got a nice speed tune-up with her 2:03.99 win.

Seth Norder (Michigan) took the boys’ mile with a big kick in 4:01.94. Bethany Michalek (Colorado) edged Katherine Bohlke (Connecticut) in the girls race, 4:42.37–4:42.81.
