On September 09, in Naperville, Illinois; of cancer. Coaching at North Central College for over 50 years, he guided the team to 19 Div. III titles. He was inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall Of Fame in ’06.
Died: Francisco Centelles, 64
On November 19. The Cuban high jumper World Ranked No. 9 in ’85. He won the Pan-Am Games in ’83. Didn’t advance from the Q-round in the ’80 Olympics
Died: Géza Fejér, 80
On November 13, in Budapest, Hungary. He placed 5th in the discus at the ’72 Olympics. A 4-time World Ranker, he was tabbed at No. 4 in ’71.
Died: Clyde Hart, 91
On November 01, in Waco, Texas; of cancer. In coaching at Baylor 1963–2019, He mentored 34 national champions and more than 500 All-Americas. Known for his collegiate successes with the 4×4, the assistant coach for the ’00 Olympic team was inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall Of Fame in ’01.
Died: Mike Manley, 83
On October 28, in Eugene, Oregon. Won the steeplechase at the ’72 Olympic Trials and also took gold at the Pan-Am Games in ’71 and ’75. Finished 10th in his heat at the ’72 Olympics. An 8-time U.S. ranker, he was No. 1 in ’69, the year he won the AAU title. ◻︎
