On December 28; in Reykjavík, Iceland. The Dartmouth alum won silver in the triple jump at the ’56 Olympics and was also 5th in ’60. He earned 4 World Rankings with a high of No. 2 in ’56.
Died: Gennadiy Valyukevich, 61
On December 29. A 6-time World Ranker in the triple jump for the Soviet Union, the Belarusian reached a high of No. 2 in ’79, the year he won the European Indoor. Twice an indoor WR setter, he finished 10th in the ’83 World Championships. ◻︎
