2022 NCAA Men’s Formchart #3 — Now It’s Georgia

A crucial head-to-head in the team battle will come when Matthew Boling and Joe Fahnbulleh clash in the 200. (ERROL ANDERSON/THE SPORTING IMAGE)

A MONTH AGO, Florida had a solid lead of 17 over Georgia, but then the world changed. With Conference action now wrapped up, our crystal ball says Mike Holloway’s Gators dropped 8 points, while Caryl Smith Gilbert’s Bulldogs saw their stock rise by 10. As a result, Georgia now holds a single-digit margin atop the heap. Making it even closer, Edrick Floréal’s Texas Longhorns also improved by 10, leaving us with a top 3 separated by just 1 point. The climactic 4×4 (with Florida as #1, Georgia as #4 and Texas as #8) could be a thriller.

When it comes to the event winners, 6 new No. 1s are now in place: Mario García Romo (Ole Miss) 1500, Ryan Smeeton (Oklahoma State) steeple, Brian Fay (Washington) 5000, Clayton Frisch (Sam Houston State) PV, Tripp Piperi (Texas) SP & Kyle Garland (Georgia) decathlon.
