Northeast: Syracuse & Maia Ramsden (Harvard)

Bronx, New York — Harvard, at No. 26, may have been favored, but No. 28 Syracuse, only 4th in the ACC, knocked them off in overcast, cool 53-degree (11C) conditions at Van Cortlandt Park. The Orange piled up 98 points, which was enough to beat unranked Boston College (109) and No. 29 Providence (137), with Harvard relegated to 4th (140).

After battling for the first half with Providence’s Kimberly May, Maia Ramsden summoned a fast close to take a comfortable win for Harvard in 19:24.4. May held on for 2nd in 19:37.3, with Columbia’s Phoebe Anderson 3rd in 19:46.2. Northeastern’s Abigail Hassman (19:57.5) and BU’s Hannah Prosser (19:58.1) filled out the top 5.

Mid-Atlantic: Georgetown & Sadie Sigfstead (Villanova)

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania — Georgetown came in ranked No. 4 nationally and had no problem handling a field with no other top-30 teams, putting 4 in the first 10. The Big East champion Hoyas scored 48 points on Lehigh’s Goodman course, with weather an optimal 51 (11C) under cloudy skies.

The other auto-qualifier went to Penn State (79), which topped Penn (104), West Virginia (120) and Villanova (128).

Individually, it was Villanova soph Sadie Sigfstead who ruled. The Canadian, 9th last year, went to the fore early and stayed there. Her lead steadily grew until the final K, when Georgetown’s Melissa Riggins mounted a ferocious kick and nearly caught Sigfstead at the line, falling just a tenth short of the Villanovan’s 19:35.5 winner.

Kelsey Swenson of Georgetown ran 3rd (19:46.8). Then Villanova’s Emma McGill (19:49.2) and Penn’s Olivia Morganti (19:50.2) came across.

Spartanburg, South Carolina — As expected, the No. 2 NC State women rolled to their seventh-straight Southeast title, the Wolfpack putting 3 in the top 8, led by individual winner Katelyn Tuohy. Behind the Wolfpack’s 52 points, the second auto-qualifying berth went to surprising No. 25 Furman with a tally of 82, far ahead of No. 10 Virginia’s 123 in 3rd.

Tuohy led early in damp, cool conditions at Milliken Research Park, then let South Carolina frosh Judy Kosgei take over in the middle of the race, before launching a strong drive that left the field nearly 10 seconds behind at 5K (16:25.7). The junior finished well for a 19:29.8 win, well ahead of the 19:41.0 by runner-up Amina Maatoug of Duke. Virginia’s Margot Appleton (19:48.9) edged Kosgei in the same time, with Clemson frosh Gladys Chepngetich 5th in 19:52.0.

Gainesville, Florida — The No. 6 Florida squad came in with the low stick, heavily favored Parker Valby, as well as a home course advantage on Mark Bostick Golf Course, but it was No. 15 Tennessee that rose to the occasion to snatch the South women’s title. No. 24 Mississippi snuck in for the 3rd position with 95 points ahead of No. 16 Alabama (98) and No. 19 Lipscomb (107).

Mountain: Northern Arizona & Gracelyn Larkin (Northern Arizona)

Lubbock, Texas — The giants clashed at Texas Tech’s Chaparral Ridge Course, with top-ranked Northern Arizona coming from behind at halfway to comfortably beat No. 3 BYU, 39–59.

No. 20 Utah closed well to pass No. 13 Colorado for the third spot, 120–131, with No. 22 Utah Valley in 5th at 136.

The breeze picked up throughout the morning as athletes raced in 51-degree (11C) temps with rain in the offing. While a big pack stayed together through 2M, Northern Arizona’s Canadian senior Gracelyn Larkin focused on keeping the Lumberjack pack together, the top 5 with a 3.3-second spread at that point.

Finally, over the final kilo-plus, Larkin moved to the front and showed her stuff, romping to a 19:19.7 over the 6K route, a finish that topped New Mexico’s Nicola Jansen (19:25.1) and Texas Tech’s Juliet Cherubet (19:26.5).
