MARCH 12, 2020—Updating the report below, the NCAA Indoor Championships, and the Outdoor Champs in June, have been canceled altogether. Read the NCAA’s announcement here.
ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO—Following an NCAA decision driven by the COVID-19 epidemic to conduct its upcoming championships without fans and with “only essential staff and limited staff attendance,” it appears this weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championships will go forward.
Unless the meet is canceled. There is no indication of that but the caveat is prudent in light of the fast-moving nature of developments related to the viral outbreak.
At a Wednesday news conference announcing New Mexico’s first three confirmed COVID-19 cases, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said her state is “proactively and aggressively canceling large public events.…” Per one report Lujan Grisham is “encouraging local governments and the private sector to follow suit.”
