HS Boys Indoor Athlete Of The Year — Nico Young

HE ONLY HAD A SINGLE RACE, but with his bashing of the national record in the 3000, Nico Young (Newbury Park, California) earned honors as HS Boys Indoor AOY. Running against pros at the Millrose Games, Young ran 7:56.97—which also claimed the absolute record—and picked up the 2000 record en route with his 5:17.89.

Five other seniors made notable postings on the all-time list and garner Honorable Mention status. Miler Cruz Culpepper (Niwot, Colorado) ran two brilliant miles on oversized tracks—4:00.10 & 4:01.10—for the Nos. 4 & 5 positions on the all-conditions list. Alex Fleury (Phillips, Andover, Massachusetts) moved to No. 10 on the all-time regulation-track mile list with his 4:05.57. Fleury also ran the year’s fastest 1000, 2:27.16. Cameron Rose (Hickory Ridge, Harrisburg, North Carolina) led the 200 and 300 lists, his 20.94 and 32.84 clockings moving him to Nos. 5 and 2 on the all-time lists.

On the field, triple jumper Sean Dixon-Bodie (Bloomfield Connecticut) became No. 3 ever with his 52-1¾, while Trey Knight (Ridgefield, Washington) became No. 2 ever in the weight at 84-0. He had limited opportunities to use the prep implement because he regularly outthrew venue capacity.
