The Razorbacks Win For The First Time

Chris Bucknam’s Arkansas squad bounced back from a January defeat to win the collegiate men’s dual meet championship. Amazingly for a program that has won so many NCAA titles both indoors and out, this is the Hogs’ first-ever dual title.
The deciding factor was the Arkansas defeat of Oregon on April 20. Two weeks earlier the Ducks had beaten Texas A&M, the team that knocked off Arkansas indoors. Arkansas’s other victories came over LSU and Texas.

To be eligible for listing, a team must compete in at least one dual meet (using the T&FN definition of a dual, which is a scored meet of 4 or fewer teams). Rankings are compiled for a combined indoor and outdoor season, with outdoor competition given more weight. Teams are also rewarded for an extensive and/or challenging dual-meet schedule.
Compiled by Jesse Squire (tracksuperfan.com), the dual meet rankings are a revival of stats compiled from 1970 through 1993. A complete archive of past rankings is available at his website.
