Whatever combination of events she runs, Julien Alfred figures to score a lot of points in the 100, 200, 4×1 and 4×4. (ERROL ANDERSON/THE SPORTING IMAGE)
IT’S HARD TO IMAGINE a more thrilling finish to the NCAA Women’s team battle than the one that our by-event predictions have generated. Our charting says that when they line up for the climactic 4×4, Florida and Texas will be tied for the lead with 67 points apiece, with everyone else mathematically eliminated.
That means that it’s one last race for all the marbles. No matter what places they end up in in the relay, the team trophy will go to the one that finishes higher. Our current guess is that Edrick Floréal’s Longhorns — enjoying homefield advantage — will beat Mike Holloway’s Gator foursome by 2 places and walk off with a 3-point win.
