ANNOUNCING A NEW BLENDED USATF LEVEL 2 PROGRAM EXPERIENCE!
Ready to take your track & field coaching to the next level? The USATF Level 2 Program provides an advanced, in-depth education in a singular event discipline and the confidence to create a comprehensive training plan for athletes at any level. This program is for serious-minded coaches who are committed to continuous improvement and athlete-centered development.
In Detail: Explaining the New Blended Course Format (Effective Fall 2025)
The USATF Level 2 Program now uses a blended format that combines online learning with an intensive, two-day in-person session. This modern approach ensures a standardized, high-quality experience for all participants.
The new format is initially available only for Jumps, Sprints, Hurdles, Relays, and Endurance. Additional disciplines and dates/locations will be added to the Calendar of Schools in 2026. Be a part of the inaugural cohort to experience the new USATF Level 2 Program format!
Part 1: Self-Paced Online Learning
Event Specific Review Materials
At time of registration, coaches will receive access to the recorded event-specific lectures for a period of up to 120 days. Each discipline contains approximately 10-12 hours of online self-paced review material that must be completed prior to Day 1 of the in-person school.
Sport Science Review Materials
First-time participants (anyone attending Level 2 for the first-time) begin their journey with the Level 2 Sport Science course ($95). This required, self-paced module includes video lectures, readings, and quizzes on key topics like biomechanics, physiology, skill acquisition, and training theory. You may enroll concurrently with the in-person session; however, it is recommended to give yourself ample time to complete the estimated 20 hours of additional coursework.
Alumni (those who have previously completed the Level 2 Program) are not required to repeat the Level 2 Sport Science course but must complete review of the event specific lectures (10-12 hr.) prior to Day 1 of the in-person session.
Part 2: Two-Day In-Person Session
This dynamic, two-day event provides additional training on your selected event discipline. You’ll engage in a variety of hands-on and observational activities, including:
• Event review sessions led by nationally recognized coaches.
• Individual and group assignments to practice your new skills and knowledge.
• Small group discussions, video analysis sessions, and/or sessions on the track.
• Exploration of contemporary topics in track & field.
Part 3: Online Final Exam
After the in-person session, you will complete a final online exam to demonstrate your mastery of the course material and learning objectives. Upon successfully passing (80% or better), you will earn your USATF Level 2 certificate.
Learn more about the new format and common questions at the link below. Registration is now open through November 7, 2025, for Jumps, Sprints, Hurdles, Relays, and Endurance.

AN UPDATE ON 2025 USATF LEVEL 3 PROGRAM PLANS
After a successful return in 2023 and 2024, with over 130 coaches earning their terminal USATF certificate, a 2025 year-end USATF Level 3 Program will not be offered. The Level 3 Program will be paused until next year for necessary working time to implement a few course adjustments, alongside finishing other coaching education program updates currently in progress. We look forward to delivering an even better and more flexible Level 3 Program experience for USATF member coaches when it returns in late 2026. Watch for future Level 3 updates on the Calendar of Schools, Announcements, and Level 3 Program information page.
LEVEL 1 RECERTIFICATION FOR DECEMBER 31, 2025, EXPIRING CERTIFICATE HOLDERS
The Level 1 Recertification window will open November 1, 2025, coinciding with the new USATF membership year start, for Level 1 certificate holders with a December 31, 2025 expiry. At this time, affected members will be able to enroll in the recertification course and submit their documents in order to obtain a new USATF Level 1 certificate valid until December 31, 2029. A reminder Level 2 and 3 certificate holders are exempt from Level 1 recertification requirements.
In addition to completing an eligible USATF continuing education course, members must hold a current USATF membership and SafeSport Training. The on-time application period will be November 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025. Late renewals will be available for a limited time in 2026, and a late fee will apply.
Watch for a registration link to be added to the USATF Calendar of Schools with more details.
