Mike Stahr became the first junior to rank No. 1 in ’82, backing it up with a senior leadership in ‘83… Michael Stember matched that with back-to-back No. 1s in ’95 & ’96. He had preceded his with a No. 3 as a soph (becoming the first soph ever to rate), thus becoming the event’s first 3-timer… The next 3-timer raised the bar much higher: Alan Webb was No. 4 as a soph and No. 3 as junior. As a senior, he not only clocked the first sub-4:00 since ‘67, he also shattered Jim Ryun’s historic national record… There have been no other 3-time members.
