A compilation of the fastest U.S. men’s times through 2019 in the big Big Apple road race. While the NYCM course has changed over the years (see details below), making some of the comparisons apples to oranges, this deep list includes an impressive number of American distance standouts.
italics= Lifetime PB (all courses)
BOLD=1st American finisher
Through 1981, the course was believed to be short by up to 150m. + = Alberto Salazar’s winning time in 1981 was 2:08:13 but with good data available on the length of the course that day (148m short) for all-time list purposes T&FN assigned a “converted” time for the full distance of 2:08:40. This list contains other 1981 performances that weren’t converted so pre-1982 times are listed as recorded.
From 2001 on, the course has entered Central Park at 90th, instead of 102nd, eliminating a short, steep hill.
