Men’s Indoor Dual Meet Rankings (01/29/19)— Aggies Take The Lead

Pat Henry’s Texas A&M squad has overtaken early leader Indiana for the top spot in the men’s indoor dual meet rankings. BYU remains #3, and Nebraska moves to #4 on the strength of a win at their Colligan Memorial quadrangular.

Wisconsin enters the rankings at #13. The Akron Zips made the biggest jump in the rankings, going from #18 to #8 after defeating archrival Kent State.

To be ranked, a team must compete in one or more dual meets (defined as a scored meet between four or fewer teams) during the indoor season. Teams are ranked on wins and losses, marks, and strength and depth of dual meet schedule. Teams are rewarded for taking dual meet competition seriously.

It’s still only January, but 2 all-time Indoor Dual Meet Records were broken this weekend.

Akron’s Matt Ludwig vaulted 19-1½ (5.83) againt Kent State on Friday night. It briefly tied him for the world lead with LSU’s Mondo Duplantis, and the pair are now tied for #3 on the all-time collegiate indoor list. The old mark was 18-4¾ (5.61) set by Akron’s Shawn Barber in ’15. Ludwig also broke the facility record at Akron’s Stile Athletics Field House, the same Barber mark.

North Dakota State’s Payton Otterdahl put the shot 71-0 (21.64) at the Colligan meet. It puts him at #3 on the all-time collegiate indoor list. The old indoor “dual” meet record was held by Ohio State’s Kevin Akins, who put 70-1¾ (21.38) at a home quadrangular in ’82.
