Collegiate Men’s Dual Meet Rankings — The Title Is On The Line

Texas A&M and Nebraska continue as the top two teams as we enter “rivalry weekend” in the homestretch of the dual-meet season. Pat Henry’s Aggies head to Baton Rouge for a quadrangular featuring arch-rival LSU, and Gary Pepin’s Huskers go to Lubbock for a quad against #3 Texas Tech. One of those three former Big 12 rivals will likely be this year’s men’s champion.

Other rivalry meets are on tap this weekend in the Pac-12, Big Sky, and Big West. Sadly, the Arizona/Arizona State dual will not be held this year, ending a 112-year-old tradition.

Rankings reflect a combined indoor/outdoor season, but with a heavier emphasis on outdoor competition. To be ranked, a team must compete in one or more dual meets —defined as a scored meet between 4 or fewer teams. Teams are ranked on wins and losses, marks, and strength and depth of dual meet schedule. Teams are rewarded for taking dual meet competition seriously.

Stat Corner: UCLA Streak In Jeopardy

The UCLA Bruins have been in the final dual meet rankings every year since John Wenos first came up with the concept in ’67, which has to be one of the most remarkable streaks in all of college sports. In fact they have never finished lower than #11, an achievement that is likely to remain intact when retro-rankings for the missing ’96 through ’08 seasons are completed. The Bruins have not been in the top 25 at any time this season under first-year head coach Avery Anderson and have one more chance to move up – but that meet on Sunday is against one of the strongest USC squads in decades.
