2015 Final Men’s Dual Meet Rankings

Texas A&M Holds On After Late Surge

by Jesse Squire
(as of May 06)

Pat Henry’s Aggies overtook the #1 ranking last week, and then held on to win their first ever national dual meet championship. The College Station squad was #2, #3 and #2 over the previous three years. Their biggest win on the season was a quadrangular victory over #4 Texas Tech, # 10 Arizona State & #16 Oklahoma.

Runners-up were last year’s champions, the Cal Golden Bears, while ’12 winner Oregon finished #3.

UCLA tumbled from #2 to #7 after a narrow 1-point loss to USC, which jumped from outside the top 25 all the way to #6.

#4 Texas Tech and #5 Illinois recorded their highest finish ever in the dual meet rankings since they were inaugurated in ’70.

Rankings reflect a combined indoor/outdoor season, but with a heavier emphasis on outdoor competition. To be ranked, a team must compete in one or more dual meets (defined as a scored meet between four or fewer teams). Teams are ranked on wins and losses, marks, and strength and depth of dual meet schedule. Teams are also rewarded for taking dual meet competition seriously.

Records

One all-time dual meet record was tied this year, and on the last day of the dual meet season. USC’s Andre DeGrasse tied the 100 meter record with 10.04 in the dual against UCLA. The record was first set by Georgia’s Mel Lattany (vs Florida & Florida State, ’81) and tied by UCLA’s Ato Boldon (vs USC, ’96).
