American Track League Announces Duval County Challenge in Jacksonville, Florida
2021 Iowa High Performance Meet Cancelled
Des Moines, Iowa (May 7, 2021) – After many conversations and exhausting every option, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the Iowa High Performance track meet in 2021. Simultaneously, the American Track League has unveiled plans to host the Duval County Challenge, hosted at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
The intent of the Iowa High Performance meet has always been to promote and expand the sport by providing opportunities to compete on the track and in the field in the state of Iowa. For a number of reasons, largely the uncertainties surrounding COVID-19, the local organizing committee came to the conclusion it would not be feasible to fulfill that mission this year. In 2022, the intent of the Iowa High Performance meet remains to produce a meet that offers track and field fans in the Midwest a chance to run, jump or throw as well as offer select events for elite athletes to do the same domestically.
For those athletes who were looking forward to competing on Monday, May 31, an exciting opportunity exists with the Duval County Challenge, organized by the American Track League in Jacksonville, Florida. Hosted at the University of North Florida, just two days after the conclusion of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary, the focus of the meet will be world class sprinting with select field events.
“We are thrilled to be adding the Duval County Challenge to replace the Iowa High Performance Meet as we look to expand the circuit. I know we will be back in Iowa in 2022, bigger and better than before,” Paul Doyle, founder of the American Track League stated. ”The opportunity to come to the Florida region with the addition of the Duval County Challenge is a step we eventually wanted to make anyway. I’m excited to be able to add the meet at an incredible venue sooner than expected.”
In a newly renovated stadium, the track at the University of North Florida recently hosted the world leading mark in the 100 meters when Trayvon Bromell ran 9.88 on April 30. More details and contact information will be available at AmericanTrackLeague.com and on related social media channels.
