OUR INTERNATIONAL PANEL has crunched all the data for Budapest, and the overall results say that the U.S. men will enjoy a medal haul shy of the overwhelming one they had in Eugene last year (18 total: 6 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze). This year’s projected 14 total podium spots split as 6 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze.
We have listed our Top 10 in each event. Any Team USA members who don’t make the top 10 are listed in alphabetical order at the end. The right-hand column is the athlete’s placing in last year’s T&FN World Rankings (nr = not ranked). For the relays, the numbers indicate place in last year’s WC.
The chart is based on the best information available as of August 16 (meaning that final entry lists were known, but not actual start lists), so the presence of an athlete’s name doesn’t guarantee they’ll contest the event.
Our picks will not be updated as the meet progresses.
