2018 continues to be a wild-wild world in the NCAA women’s predictions department.
The teams that were 1-2-3-4-5 back on Chart #1 became 3-1-=4-2-=4 on Chart #2. Then chart 2’s 1-2-3-4-5 became 2-1-4-3-7. And now (phew!) last week’s top 5 are slated at 3-2-4-5-=6. And last week’s No. 6 is now No. 1. Wow! Got that? There will be a quiz.
The predicted leadership has changed in every iteration of our crystal-balling so far. Arkansas was on top the first time, followed by USC in week 2, then Georgia… and now it’s Oregon’s turn. But uneasy lies the crown, as the Duck margin is all of a single point over USC at this juncture, with Georgia only 2 points behind the Trojans and LSU another digit behind that.
Oregon was obviously the big gainer of the week, the Duck stock rising by 11 points, while USC dropped by 2, Georgia by 4 and LSU by 2.
Last week USC had a 4-point lead over Georgia, but while the Trojans’ predicted score dropped by 2, the defending champs added 3 to theirs to take over the lead.
If the meet goes as predicted here (and you know likely that is!), when we get to the climactic 4×4 the top scores will be Oregon 53, Georgia 52, LSU 48, USC 44. But Georgia won’t likely be in the 4×4, while USC remains very much in the hunt, particularly if Robert Johnson’s Oregon squad doesn’t pick up some minor points.
There are 4 new single individual leader changes over Chart #3: Kendall Ellis (USC) replaces Sydney McLaughlin in the 400 (McLaughlin now assumes the role of 400H fave, displacing Anna Cockrell of USC), Jessica Hull (Oregon) replaces Nikki Hiltz (Arkansas) in the 1500 and Karissa Schweizer (Missouri) takes over from Ednah Kurgat (New Mexico) in the 10K.
