Petros Kyprianou’s Bulldogs now head the chart. (GEORGIA SPORTS COMMUNICATIONS)
2018 has so far been a wild world in the women’s predictions department.
The teams that were 1-2-3-4-5 on Chart #1 became 3-1-=4-2-=4 on Chart #2. And now last week’s 1-2-3-4-5 are 2-1-4-3-7.
Last week USC had a 4-point lead over Georgia, but while the Trojans’ predicted score dropped by 2, the defending champs add 3 to theirs to take over the lead.
If the meet goes as predicted here (and you know likely that is!), when we get to the climactic 4×4 Georgia—unlikely to have a team in the race—will already have the meet clinched. USC’s theoretical win will still leave them a point behind.
Georgia is predicted to score 9 times in 7 events, USC 10 times in 8 events.
Petros Kyprianou’s Bulldogs continue to score exceptionally well on the field, but if they’re going to win they need big points from frosh sensation Lynna Irby in both the 200 and 400. The crystal ball has Georgia scoring in the 200, 400, 5000, HJ, LJ (3), TJ & Hept.
USC, on the other hand, constructed on the popular speed-oriented sprint/hurdle/relay mode: 100 (2), 200, 400, 100H (2), 400H, 4×1, 4×4, SP.
The big gainer on the week was LSU, which moved up only a single place in the standings, but with 9 points added its title is now only 4 points behind leader Georgia.
There is only a single individual leader change over Chart #2: Taliya Brooks (Arkansas) replaces Kate Hall (Georgia) in the LJ.
