I'm OK with it, and more to the point, I'm pretty sure SI was too.

Said the snake after you picked it up and it bit you, "you knew I was a snake when you picked me up."

Snake, in this context, is T2P.
Criticizing a magazine that isn't worth anything anymore and can barely support it's writing staff indicates a clueslessness of high order....

She gave a good speech. There is nothing wrong with pointing out that after 65 years, only three other women have won individual awards.

Also I see now that the award is given for on and off the field accomplishments. In which case Tiger Woods should not be a contender.

Comparing Woods' reaction to Nadal is comparing him to one of the most gracious, most polite superstar athletes of my lifetime. But my bromance with Nadal knows no bounds - my favorite athlete of last 10 years.

I had no problem with Woods reaction on 18 at Augusta.

I have a close friend who used to be a writer for SI and he/she told me a few years ago that the magazine internally made it clear that this award was not for the "top" Sportsperson of the Year, but for one near the top who could best sell and promote the magazine.

As an example, Pete Sampras never won it - he was too boring although he was in the discussion of GOAT during his career - before Fedal came along

Actually snake is this context is Al Wilson "The Snake"

    "Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
"I saved you, " cried the woman
"And you've bitten me, but why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman, " said the reptile with a grin
"You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in

except the world needs people like that, rather than a bunch of wishy-washy-hide-from-the-truths who dominate normal discourse

It wasn't your intention, but you just proved why she needed to say what she said when she said it.

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." - George Bernard Shaw

Yes, agree with GH to a degree, but Atticus is correct that is must be hard to be so mad at everything all the time. As to normal discourse, maybe privately among people, but in today's media, it is always about the negatives and what's wrong. What's good or right with the world is never mentioned.

Exactly, and she proves why reasonable people must respond to her nonsense.
