Their Soccer Club Vanished. They Kept Coming.

After Bury Football Club was shuttered on the eve of this season, five employees chose to persevere without pay. Theirs is a story of loyalty, duty and hope.

It has been three months since Bury, unable to meet its financial obligations or find an owner to take over from the reviled Steve Dale, was thrown out of the English Football League. It is only a couple of weeks before it will be formally liquidated, before the club that traces its roots to 1885 ceases to exist entirely. It has been a “slow death,” Curtis said, and the remaining caretakers long for its completion. Only then can work start on forming a new club in its place.

I must be missing the obvious. Whey can't they start from scratch again with the OLD club? How does its name doom its further existence?

I think it is more of a legal thing....Bury FC was a company that became insolvent with lots of debt... there are legal rights to the name...also sort of a punishment....declare bankruptcy....and then continue on...which has happened in the past....

When Hereford United went bust a few years ago a team was reborn as Hereford FC...and play in the same, though much smaller, Edgar Street Stadium in Hereford.

What happened to Bolton? Word is that they declared administration, but they played 15 games in League One. Did the owners sell the team?

    OK, that makes sense.
