Happy birthday today (Sunday) to an Olympic champion who was born on a Monday 61 years ago and won Olympic gold on a Monday some 35 years ago.

This athlete also won a World Championship gold medal and competed in two Olympic Games, but never in the hurdles.

Our birthday person was not born in Asia, North America, or Australia.

About 71 years ago, an athlete from the same country as our birthday champion, won Olympic gold (in a different event) and this other athlete shares the same initials as our birthday individual.

I bet someone out there can name our birthday champion for this first Sunday of December.

Are you sure this athlete won Olympic gold on a Monday? I think not.

Happy birthday today to Alberto Cova (61). Cova won the Los Angeles Olympic 10,000 the same day Carl Lewis won the long jump and the same day Cordner Nelson turned 66 (I sat with him in Los Angeles). Nice job, Pego. You made a very good stab.

Hmm, does the thread title connect with the answer in a more straightforward way than what we are used to in DoubleRBar's quizes? (I think there have been rumors about Cova's blood doping, but have they been substantiated?)

Doesn't it refer to Martti Vainio's dq?

I'm getting a little uncomfortable with this thread, from the title on down

Vainio was caught with anabolic steroid, not blood doping.
