Football requires parental consent. Drinking and vaping are greatly discouraged, and driving is a necessity.
If a kid can excel at football, there will be indeed many parents who will ignore the dangers, but eventually, parents will be guilted into not letting their kids play and that will be that. Plus, lawsuits will become commonplace (cf. the coach who was sued because he told a baseball player to slide!).

Friday Night Lights is still alive and well in some places. In Google Earthing track/football stadiums in Okla and Texas, I find very few stadiums outside the major cities have soccer
overlays. Also, there are still many black asphalt 440 yard tracks.

    No, it's not.

If you're talking about Uber, that ends up being pretty pricey in the long run if you're constantly on the go.

Delaying the inevitable. They WILL be driving as 'adults'.
There is zero evidence of that trend anywhere around here.

I assume there are a few examples of US international t&f athletes who would have finished with track at high school if they hadn't gotten a football scholarship?

I would never mention unlicensed cabs in polite conversation.

I guess you do not live in New York City. Even in Madison I know people that have never driven and others that no longer drive. And in not that many years I think that there are a lot more people that will not own a car and will take a number of trips in a vehicle without a driver. Also, there are such things as buses. And that article asserts that a number of these non-driving youths will not own a car.

Without football and basketball to pay the bills, would college athletics return to a souped up intramural activity for actual students?
