The IAAF performance tables rate 44:20 equivalent to a 2:11:51 marathon. Equivalent track performances would include 800m 1:51, 1500m 3:46 and 5K 13:42, times that are all presently inconceivable.

The only way I would consider that time legit would be if she did it on the track. Road and cross-country courses vary so much that making comparisons is only valid for course records. And even that can vary depending on weather conditions.

But even the men's record, 41:05, tells me the course measurement might be off i.e. short.

Nope. Certified course. Also a European Athletics Certified 5-Star Race.

It is one loop, and the final segment is clearly downhill.
I was going by the video of 41:05.....which is deceptive...a rolling hills course as we would say....but as noted not necessarily a slow one...

    VDOT calculator predicts 13:53 / 28:54 / 1:03:37 / 2:13:19.

Inconceivable? Depends on what you are wearing...

That's amazing but not as unreal as the 44:20...

If Gidey really did a 44:20 15K, then we should expect that she could be one to lower the 29:17 track WR this coming track season. Will be interesting to see.

I hope she does, but it is unlikely.

Come next track season, it will be interesting to see who runs the longer track events in flats, not spikes. Or perhaps in some strange-looking new-age spikes ?
