Hard to believe the 44:20 15K by Letesenbet Gidey.

Pardon my ignorance, but was the 44:20 15K WR by Letesenbet Gidey on the road, cross-country or track?

Apparently not on a track because I don't believe she (or anyone else right now) could run that fast. So I'm guessing the course was either miss measured or too much down hill.

She would have to average just under 14:47 5K's 3 in a row! Another way to say it...she'd have to run a 29:20 10K and then continue on for a 15:00 5K...or a fast 30:00 10K split then run a near WR 14:20 5K. I don't believe it.

It's a legitimate course....loops, fairly flat....here is the video of the 41:05 WR from last year there....

Amazing time indeed....I can remember not so long ago that would have been an awesome time for men..

29:17 last 10k, albeit in a downhill course. That's crazy.

Not judging by the video tour of the course map with elevation at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN6dCgKHqH4

It is one loop, and the final segment is clearly downhill.

The profile is not that of a flat course, with a number of 'bergs' and climbs of 40m or so. The finish is downhill but you had to climb first. It is a mixed-gender race with the women running in among the men you they can get assistance the whole race.

There is a school of thought that a gently undulating course is faster than one that is pancake flat because it allows the runner to relax and save energy on the downhill stretches.

44:20 is incredibly fast. By my calculations if she could have continued for less than half a mile at a similar pace she would run about 47:34 for 10 miles.

    Results are at
    https://evenementen.uitslagen.nl/201...nheuvelenloop/
Click on "NN Zevenheuvelenloop - 15 km" on the first dropdown. Click on any runner to get km splits. Gidey was 16th overall.
Km 10 was 2:45, 12 seconds faster than her race pace, but this is consistent with the 2018 race, where the men's record included a 2:32 10th km.
    Amazing performance.
