    I donít think they liked each other at all, but he and Rick Barry were my favorite announcer team, funny and informative.

    As a kid and a Lakers fan my most hated sports figures were Red Auerbach, Bob Cousy and Bill Russell in that order.
    I became a real Russell fan with the gradual realization that he was a larger than life figure in all respects.
    What really sold me was a brief exchange on TV coverage of an international hoops in which the Brazilian coach had benched his star player for a disciplinary infraction. When asked if he would have done the same, Russell laughed and replied, "No, I would have just beat him up and made him play."
