    Happy birthday today (Sunday) to an Olympic champion with two Olympic gold medals from two Olympic Games.

    Our birthday athlete was born 89 years ago today, but died of cancer at the age of 75.

    Both gold medals were won in Europe.

    Enough said. Name this champion.

    The age and Europe clues point to the London and Helsinki Olympics. The fact that you didn't mention hurdles makes it easy to narrow things down. I'm guessing Bob Mathias, who went to Stanford--the Palo Alto connection.

    Bob Mathias was born 89 years ago today. Nice job, tandfman. One doesn't need a lot of clues to know Mathias who won two consecutive gold medals in the Olympic decathlon. Mathias was born and died in California's Central Valley known for its agriculture and Olympic champions.
