Happy birthday today (Saturday) to an Olympic champion who was born 95 years ago today and died at the age of 89 after competing in only one Olympic Games.

Even though this athlete had a fractured hip as a young child, our birthday person went on to win two Olympic gold medals.

Our birthday individual was born less than 40 miles from an Olympic stadium, but not the Olympic stadium where this athlete won Olympic gold.

You may be interested (or not) to know that this champion was born about six weeks after President Jimmy Carter.

No hurdles were involved any of the three Olympic events in which our birthday athlete competed.

If I mentioned Saudi Arabia, would that help?

Name this Olympic champion for this third Saturday of November.

Thoughts. The two gold medals had to be in a sprint and in a relay event. Medals won in either 1948 or 1952. If the person grew up near an Olympic Stadium that rules out Caribbean runners. Probably from somewhere near Los Angelos. Does the Saudi Arabia clue mean that the person was an oil executive? If that is the case the person is a guy. I'd guess Mel Patton as a Californian with two gold medals in '48.

Mel Patton it is, KDFINE. Very good. Patton won the 200 and anchored the winning four by 100 relay in London (1948). He was fifth place in the 100. Mel Patton ran the National Sports Program in Saudi Arabia for several years. He died about five years ago (2014) at the age of 89. The man that won that 100 in London (Harrison Dillard) died about three days ago at age 96. Well done, KDFINE.
