    I've heard plenty of Wiss-ter with a very soft I. Either way it's definitely the S that dominates how it sounds.

    Arkansas City is in Kansas and is supposed to be pronounced like Kansas and not Arkansas. Always seemed like a terrible name. We always called it Ark City.

    The Arkansas River is Ar-kansas in Kansas and Arken-saw in Arkansas.
