From the above mentioned article (gh's post) ...

“Downtown Toronto, forget it, downtown Toronto, nobody wears a poppy,” Cherry said. “You people love, you that come here, whatever it is, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple of bucks for poppies or something like that. These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada."

I know nothing about his history or style, but the comment quoted in the article did not seem incendiary or over the top. Maybe in bad taste, but then again there is almost always a back story, which I simply do not know.

Known about this idiot for years. My only response to this news was what took so long?

Agreed. He has been a “colorful” analyst for Canadian hockey shows for decades. But he probably only attracts older demographics now. I’d guess that they were looking to get rid of him. Even if they wanted to show they are PC, they could easily have let him off with a suspension.

Craig Sager was boring compared to Cherry.

Good golly, Miss Molly! As wamego said, he made Craig Sager look boring.

regarding fashion statement (mis-statement?) #2, I wonder why the author considers St Patrick's Day to be the most obnoxious of holidays in Toronto. I will admit green beer is a bit much. I'll take mine without food coloring. :-)

Guilty of having the "wrong" opinion.
