We need an A. C. born in 1923, who won gold with injured back. Probably won in London or Helsinki. I guess he/she is American, since that might be about 7000 km from Norway.

I looked it up and must confess that I had never heard of him/her.

Since Olli gave it away, it has to be Alice Coachman. Although you never heard of her, Olli, Coachman has an exalted place in Olympic history as the first African-American, or Black (native African) female to win an Olympic gold medal - any sport.

Thanks for education, but I certainly did not "give it away" by mentioning that I had not heard about him/her.

Alice Coachman it is. Good job bambam1729 and Olli. You're a good team. Coachman did win the 1948 London Olympic women's high jump. She was one of ten children (born in Georgia - the state, not the country). I think I gave it away when I said she didn't win her Olympic gold medal in Africa.

No, by saying it was an AC in London or Helsinki - that gave it away to me

OK. But that was easy to deduce.
