A mildly amusing trivia. Both coaches have once upon a time been head coaches at Illinois.

Kansas forward Silvio De Sousa will miss 12 games, as he was among four players suspended by the Big 12 on Wednesday for their roles in a brawl between the Jayhawks and Kansas State on Tuesday.

In addition to De Sousa's suspension, which was the stiffest of the four, the Jayhawks' David McCormack received a two-game ban. For Kansas State, James Love will miss eight games, and Antonio Gordon will miss three.

Even if there was no brawl, De Souza (Kansas) still deserved at least a one-game suspension. 22 points up, barely a second left in the game, and he chose to walk over to a fallen opponent to taunt him.

Some say the player who fell (Dajuan Gordon) should have just dribbled out the clock instead of trying to score, as is often done in the last 20 seconds of games with a big lead. But he's a freshman and bench player, so he likely feels the pressure to play hard for every minute of every game no matter the score, to show the coach he deserves more playing time.

Others say De Souza shouldn't have chased down Gordon to block the shot, but De Souza himself was also a bench player averaging just 8 minutes per game, so he was under similar pressure to play hard. But he should have just run back to the other end of the court instead of walking over to taunt Gordon.

Absolutely. There is some not so friendly history here going back many decades and this is an example from four years ago.
