And lets not forget the mega talent song writer that died too young : Steve Goodman

I sit mesmerized at Goodman's immense talent, I can listen to that song for hours!

Never even knew about him until long after his passing.

I guess I wasn't paying attention. I am familiar with many of Steve Goodman's songs without knowing who wrote them or even being aware of his life until this thread.

Quite well known in Chicago primarily because he wrote the Cubs victory song....Go, Cubs, Go....

Goodman's City of New Orleans as performed live by The Highwaymen is a track I don't go more than a day or two without listening to.

didn't get the memo, all died in their 30s (tho not all of substance abuse).

But, to your point, it seems tons didn't even make it to 30

This is an educational thread. I'm familiar with most of the people on this list but I had never heard of Grace Slick before. Perhaps we should separate the aviation crash victims from the drug overdosers. Here are a few more names, including a couple I just learned about courtesy Ken Burns:

    • Charlie Parker
      Billie Holiday
      Dinah Washington
      John Coltrane
      Robert Johnson
      Lee Morgan
      Nat King Cole
      Patsy Cline
      Hank Williams
      Jimmie Rodgers
      Gram Parsons

One of the greatest music scenes in TV was the orchestral rendition of Paint It Black in Westworld.
